Meet Hassana and Hussaina-Nigeria’s First Female Twin Pilots

Hussein’s and Hassana Edili Ogaji are Nigerian twins who are senior aviation officers in the Airline industry with about seven years experience to their credits. Narrating their challenges, Ankpa born twins pilots explained how the local media initially raised controversial rumors about them that attempted to dash their dreams.

“In Zaria, we never experienced gender-based discrimination but we also had a little crash and the media tagged us with different names and twisted our words,” the Ogajis said to. “We had a particular instructor who was not fair to us, but I am very grateful to God that we had another instructor who was really supportive. The relationship with our colleagues in flying school was awesome, but we had the usual misunderstandings and issues with mingling. We had to cope with a lot of things coming our way at that time, but I would say there was no gender discrimination.”

Despite living in a patriarchal society, the Ogajis, hail from Ankpa Local Government Area Of Kogi State hope that females will be recognized within and outside the industry, proving that the African woman is capable of venturing into any field she chooses.

Huseina Edili Ogaji obtained her First School Leaving Certificate From Air Force Nursery and Primary School Kaduna between 1999-1998 where she also engaged in sports, music, science club and cultural dance.

Young Hussiena proceeded to Federal Government College Kaduna where she obtained her Secondary School Leaving Certificate between 1998 – 2004 with excellent result. With her sterling leadership quality, Hussiena was the Vice President / Public Relations Officer, French and Science Club at the federal government college, Kaduna

in 2006, Hussiena got admission into the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology where she bagged her degrees in Aviation Professional Diploma,Aviation, Standard Pilots Training With Upper credit and Obtained a Privated Pilot License (PPL) with Instrument / Night Rating on the Tampico TB-9 / TB-20 Light Trainer Aircraft and a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with Instrument / Multiple-Engine Rating on the Beech Baron- 58 (B-58) Multi Engine Aircraft. At the college of Aviation, She was involved in Activities such Sports, Ground School and Flight Training as gathered by Insidestoryng.

In 2008, she proceeded to Flight Safety International Le Bourge Paris, France where she obtained degree in Dash-8 Professional Piloting with Satisfactory grade.
She was also involved in Activities and Such as Ground School and Flight Training. Initial Dash-8 (100-300 series) Type Rating.

In 2012, she proceeded to Higher Power Aviation Dallas Fortworth Texas, United States Of America where she bagged ATPL On the B-737 NG Professional Piloting Certificate with Satisfactory grade.Her activities included Ground School and Flight Training And Obtained a type Rating on the Boeing 737 Classic / NG (300-900er series) and an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) on the B737 Type.

In 2013, Hussiena secured admission into City University London, United Kingdom where she bagged Master’s degree In Air Safety Management

Hussein’s is an experienced Airline pilot , Who has worked with various aviation cross company workers; aircrew, flight dispatchers, maintenance engineers, regulatory authorities, air traffic controllers, baggage/ cargo ground handlers, caterers, ramp and fueling agents, to successfully achieve a safe and efficiency in aviation industry.

Her working experience include; Senior First Officer B-737 Classics (300/500) with Aero Contractors Company of Nigeria Ltd between Apr 2012 – Dec 2014

At Aero contractor, Hussiena was First Officer Dash-8 whose Operation involved the following activities on Airline Pilot B-737 (300/500) series- Worked with the Pilot In Command (PIC) to perform safe and efficient conduct of flight/ground operations, also managing available resources to enhance On Time Performance. Carried out supervisory roles (Pilot Monitoring), in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures and concerning other administrative duties in relation to flight.Responsible for maintaining familiarity with relevant Nigerian and International air Legislation and agreed aviation practices and procedures.

Support the PIC in the maintenance of a proper standard of aircrew discipline and conduct.

Support the PIC, by active example, in the development and maintenance of a high standard of professional expertise and morale amongst the air/ground crew when carried. Rendering excellent customer service with the safety and comfort of passengers as priority, in the interest and benefit of the company.

Supervised as an observing Safety Pilot on training flights.Responsible for assuming Command in the event of the incapacitation of the PIC.

Conducted Flights as Pilot Flying, in charge of exercising safe aeronautical decisions while building PIC-Hours in all flight conditions (Day, Night in both Instrument Metrological Conditions and Visual Metrological Conditions).

Hussiena Edili also possess excellent training in Crew Resource Management. Policy on the transportation of Dangerous goods. Airline/Airport Security Program

Emergency Drills On Ground/ In flight. Handling of Accidents Incidents and Occurrences. Flight Operating Procedures/ Flight Planning and preparation Instructions. Fatigue Management (Flight time Limitations/ Work and Rest time Regulations).

She has won Excellence award and women in Aviation International award.
